Pirates of the Caribbean Violin Tutorial & Sheet Music

The first Pirates of the Caribbean film premiered in 2003. The films (of which there are 5 total) follow the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow and his pirate crew in the Caribbean. The films have been a huge success and their soundtrack no doubt contributed to this. In the tutorial below, you’ll learn how to play the main theme from Pirates of the Caribbean. It is in the key of D Minor, meaning there is 1 flat, B flat. This tune does go quite fast so if you need to slow it down you can click the setting wheel at the bottom of the video and watch it in .75 or .5 speed. There is a much more in-depth tutorial of this piece included in your membership to Learn Violin Online.

This is a late beginner/early intermediate level tune. There is one spot in measure 78 where you must play a high C. You can reach this note by simply extending your fourth finger on the E string in 1st position, or you can shift to third position like you’ll see me do in the video. Try to stay in the lower part of the bow for the majority of the piece. Download the sheet music and watch the tutorial below.
