Happy Birthday Violin Tutorial & Sheet Music

There are many versions of this tune, but the one that we’ll be learning is in the key of G Major, which has 1 sharp, F#. This means we need to use the high second finger (touching the third finger) on the G and D strings, and the low 2nd finger (touching the first finger) on the A and E strings. This is in 3/4 time, which means there are three beats per measure. The trickiest rhythm that you’ll find is a dotted eighth note followed by a sixteenth note. When you see a dot next to a note, it means that you add half of that note’s value to the note. A regular eighth note is 1/2 of a beat, half of that is 1/4, so a dotted eighth note gets 3/4 of a beat, or 3 sixteenth notes.
